Performance with 3 members of Altan, NCH, Dublin

On 4th July 2014 David performed a rousing lunchtime recital in the John Field Room of the National Concert Hall, Dublin, his third appearance there in the past year. The momentum of the programme was furiously set with Beethoven’s Sonata opus 57 (“Appassionata”) and then, being Independence Day in America, one of the highlights of the programme was his sparkling performace of “L’Union” by American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk. This piece was written during the Civil War, and includes 3 U.S. national anthems: The Star-Spangled Banner; Hail, Columbia; and Yankee Doodle.

However, David surprised everyone by inviting 3 members of Irish traditional group Altan up on stage towards the end of the recital and delighting the audience with a beautiful rendition of‘Stairway to Heaven’ with Mark Kelly, Martin Tourish and Ciaran Tourish.

Following this things kicked off with the ‘Wedding Jig’ and the impromptu session sent the audience into a whirlwind of unexpected excitement!
